Microsoft Dynamics GP
Dynamics GP, originally Great Plains, has served a lot of companies well for a long time, including many of ours. Microsoft has set the dates for its end, so the question is when to move and where. Until then, we keep GP systems running well and keep building on them.
The dates
After mainstream support ends, GP keeps running, but there are no more tax updates or fixes. After security updates end, staying on it becomes a risk your auditors and insurers will ask about.
- April 1, 2026New GP subscription sales ended
- December 31, 2029Mainstream support ends
- April 30, 2031Security updates end
Staying on GP for now
Many of our clients still run Dynamics GP, and we support them every day. Staying put for a few more years is often the right call, as long as the system keeps up with the business.
- Day-to-day support for finance and operations users
- New integrations with SmartConnect, eConnect and APIs
- Reports, Management Reporter and Power BI
- Year-end, tax updates and version upgrades
- Customizations and workflow changes as the business changes
- Budgeting and reporting with Pivotal Insights, which connects to GP today and to your next ERP later
Where to go
Most GP companies we work with move to Acumatica or Dynamics 365 Business Central. Both are good systems. They differ in pricing model, how they handle multiple companies and projects, and how much fits without customization. We will tell you which fits better and why.
What carries over
- Chart of accounts, redesigned where the old segment structure no longer fits
- Customers, vendors, items and open balances
- General ledger history by period, so comparisons keep working
- Open receivables, payables and purchase orders at cutover
- The reports people rely on, rebuilt in the new system
GP to Acumatica, faster
For GP companies moving to Acumatica, we use conversion templates and checklists built from our own GP migrations. Mapping, conversion and reconciliation start from what already worked, which shortens the project and lowers the risk. Ask about fixed-fee options for well-defined moves.
Timing
The length of a move depends on the number of companies, modules and integrations. Starting a year or more before you need to be off GP leaves room for a careful cutover at a year-end or quarter-end.
Planning and reporting through the move
Pivotal Insights connects to GP today and to Acumatica and Business Central after the move, so budgets, forecasts and reports carry across without being rebuilt.
